Turkmenistan is a country located in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the northeast, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. It has a diverse geography, including the Karakum Desert and the Kopet Dag mountain range. The country has a population of around 5.6 million people and the official language is Turkmen, a Turkic language. The capital and largest city is Ashgabat. The country has significant reserves of natural gas and oil, and the economy is heavily dependent on these resources. The government is a presidential dictatorship, with the president serving as both head of state and head of government. The country has been ruled by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow since 2006.
