President Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States, serving from 1929 to 1933. He was a successful mining engineer and humanitarian before entering politics. Hoover was known for his efforts to alleviate famine in Europe after World War I and his leadership during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. However, his presidency was marred by the onset of the Great Depression, which he was unable to effectively address. Hoover's inability to reverse the economic downturn led to his defeat in the 1932 presidential election by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Despite this, Hoover's legacy as a humanitarian and his commitment to public service have endured.
